Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The statistics of an item are improved by upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment increases a stat linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an indicator of the level of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a procedure that can improve the stats of your weapons and armor. This can be accomplished by various methods that include using upgrade components as well as upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. Many items can also be reforged to increase their value.

There are some exceptions, however. the non-inscribable weapons, such as shields and foci from Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which cannot be upgraded with any mods in any way.
Glyphs

This is the highest value that the glyph can improve a stat by but not the amount it actually increases the stat by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the product you are in awe of it.
The majority of upgrade components that are slotted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you do not want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to the gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
If you are looking to remove a glyph from an item, you will need to salvage it using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed in which it is installed, but you can recover the upgraded item with the glyph and its fragments, therefore it should not be considered as a loss.
